04-27-2014 Announcements


IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS we remember Gary Schrag who fell last week and broke his hip, those who will be having surgery this week, those who are recovering from surgery and illness, those in cancer treatment programs as well as our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

Main Street Living – April 27th – The featured speaker will be Rev. Silas Mehl of Zion Lutheran Church in Canistota and St. John Lutheran Church in Montrose.  His sermon theme will be “Opposing God.”  The program is interpreted for the hearing impaired.
 
QUARTERLY VOTERS’ MEETING NOTICEOur Spring voters’ meeting will be held today in the Fellowship Hall right after the worship service.
 
OLINDA STARK’S ENTRANCE INTO GLORY – We pray for peace and comfort for the family of Olinda Stark whom God called home last Tuesday, April 22nd.  We pray that God would comfort all who mourn with the hope of the glorious resurrection of the body on the Last Day and a happy reunion in heaven.  Olinda’s home-going service was held yesterday, April 26th.

 MELCHER SCHOLARSHIP applications may be picked up from one of the ushers. The application needs to be returned on or before Sunday, April 27th. You may give your application to Betsy, Barb or Diane.

 LADIES AID will meet on May 1st at 7:00 p.m. with Darlene Schrag as Hostess.  The Bible Study will be Session 4 – The Talents, followed by the business meeting.  On Altar Guild for May is Ella and Elsie Hein and June Schamber is Visiting Helper.  Coffee Hour committee for May 4th is Joan Dreessen, Millie Gunderson and Elsie and Ella Hein. 

 SENIOR SUNDAY – Please plan to join us on Sunday, May 11th, for our Senior Sunday worship service and the reception afterward.  All high school and college students who are graduating this Spring (or their families) are encouraged to contact the church office to make sure we have your name on file so that no one is accidentally left out.  Thank you for your help on this!

 FINANCIAL AID is available for any full-time undergraduate student attending one of our Synodical universities and who is preparing for professional church work as well as for any full-time seminarian attending one of our Synodical seminaries.  Financial Aid Request forms must be received by the Sioux Falls District Office no later than May 1st.  Applications received after the deadline may not be considered or may be approved only if budgeted funds are still available.  Students must apply each year.  Applications are available online at the District web site http://sd.lcms.org under the Forms and Resources tab.

 CORRECTION SHEET: Anyone interested in getting a correction sheet for the cookbook, please see the bulletin board for the green insert. There are five corrections that will affect the outcome of the recipes. Thank you to those that helped make the corrections.  Also thanks again to all that submitted recipes and purchased cookbooks. There are still cookbooks available.

Main Street Living – April 20th – The featured speaker will be Rev. Matt Wurm of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Brookings.  His sermon theme will be “Earthshaking News!”  The program is interpreted for the hearing impaired.

THE LORD’S SUPPER at St. Paul Lutheran Church is administered in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.  It is celebrated in the confidence that we receive – in, with and under the consecrated bread and wine – our Savior’s true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  All who commune at this altar are making this public confession of the faith that we believe and teach as is written in the Holy Scriptures.  If you are not a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, please speak with the Pastor before the worship service.

A Special Thank You to all Lenten and Easter season vocalists and musicians for the stewardship of your time and talents to provide us with special music for our worship services.  In God’s Kingdom, each of us has been given talents and the opportunity to use and develop them.  We give thanks to God for all of you who were willing to share your talents with the rest of us and for using them to God’s glory!  Alleluia!  Alleluia!

MEN’S BIBLE STUDY CLASS – Rise and shine!  We have completed our study of the Books of I & II Thessalonians.  This week we will begin studying the Book of Jude which records for us timely warnings against the devil’s lies and those on earth who do his bidding.  The time of the world’s final accountability to God is near and we must never cease to fight for the faith.  All class materials will be provided.  All guys are welcome to join us at 6:00 a.m. each Wednesday in our Fellowship Hall for a hot breakfast and the studying of God’s Word!

IF ANYONE has belongings that were left in their home from the MSEC Choir, please bring it to the Pastor. He will make sure to get them back their belongings. Thank you.

MAIN STREET LIVING – April 13th – The featured speaker will be Rev. Scott Sailer of Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. His sermon theme will be “The Washings of Holy Week.” The program is interpreted for the hearing impaired.

EASTER LILY REMINDER – For those of you who are planning to purchase an Easter lily for our altar on Easter Sunday and would like the person’s name in the bulletin for whom the flowers are given in memory of, please let us know as soon as possible but not later than Wednesday, April 16th. Thank you.

HOLY WEEK WORSHIP SERVICES – Our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday worship services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please take advantage of this opportunity to worship with us during these last 2 Lenten services! The Sacrament of The Lord’s Supper will be observed on Maundy Thursday. We will offer 2 services again this year on Easter Sunday. The sunrise service will begin at 7:30 and the late service will begin at the usual time of 9:30.

PALM SUNDAY POTLUCK – We will be having a potluck luncheon at 11:30 today to thank Bethany Christian School’s choir for their participation in the service and to support them in their trip to South Dakota. Please be ready on or before 11:30 since they have a limited amount of time to spend with us after our worship service. Thanks.

BETHANY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL’S CHOIR (from Goshen, IN) is whom our church is hosting this weekend. They are also providing much of our music this morning. Nathan Swartzendruber is their choir director. Thank you very much, Mr. Swartzendruber and Choir, for your dedicated and talented service to our Lord and His church! May God keep you safe on your travels.

MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES – This Wednesday will be the last of our 6 Lenten midweek services on the theme “The Passion According to St. Mark.” A soup and sandwich supper will be offered beginning at 5:45; the service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please join us for worship!

LWML will meet on Wednesday April 9th at 6:00 p.m. before the Lenten Service. We will take part in the soup supper and have our business meeting while we eat and attend the Lenten Service after.

HELEN SCHAMBER’S ENTRANCE INTO GLORY – We pray for peace and comfort for the family of Helen Schamber whom God called home last Monday, March 31st. We pray that God would comfort all who mourn with the hope of the glorious resurrection of the body and a happy reunion in heaven, and that He would sustain the family with the knowledge that all who remain faithful will be given the crown of eternal life and will be in our Lord’s presence forevermore. Helen’s home-going service was held yesterday, April 5th.

EASTER LILY REMINDER – For those of you who are planning to purchase an Easter lily for our altar on Easter Sunday and would like the person’s name in the bulletin for whom the flowers are given in memory of, please let us know as soon as possible but not later than Wednesday, April 16th. PALM SUNDAY POTLUCK – We will be having a potluck luncheon after our Palm Sunday worship service to thank Bethany Christian School’s choir for their participation in the service. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for lunch! And just a suggestion … when you are preparing your favorite salad / entrĂ©e / dessert to bring to the potluck, you may want to consider using the next larger size dish or container. We will be having an extra 29 choir personnel to feed who won’t be able to bring anything of their own to the meal and we do not want to run out of food! Thanks

PALM SUNDAY WEEKEND throughout Freeman will be a weekend to remember! Six Mennonite high schools will join the Freeman Academy for the weekend, culminating in a mass concert on Sunday afternoon (April 13th) in Sterling Hall. Our church has agreed to be a host congregation for one of these schools. Bethany Christian School is the one that has been assigned to us; they have 27 (Grades 10 thru 12) youth in their choir. Bethany’s choir will be providing most of the music for the service. In addition, all of the youth and the chaperones now have a place to stay. A huge “Thank You” to all of you who opened your homes to them.

CONFIRMATION SUNDAY
We welcome everyone to today’s Confirmation service and the bringing of our 5 confirmands – Tracy Andersen, Bryce Dannenbring, Charles Harberts, Levi Hintz and Lindsay Thomas – into the church as communicant members through the Rite of Confirmation. We pray that the Lord will continue to sanctify them through His Word and that they will continue to walk the road of life with their pathways brightened by the never-failing lamp of His Word. Everyone is invited to stay for the coffee and cake reception after the service.
