IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please pray for all who are in a time of need, those with an upcoming surgery, our members under-going cancer treatments, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least two people in your life who do not yet know Christ.  In addition, Trisha Langle and other Pre-Med students from SDSU will be going to Mombasa, Kenya for the month of August.  While there, they will be volunteering at Port Reitz Hospital, tending to the ill.  Please pray for their safety as they travel and minister to the people of Africa.

LARGE-PRINT HYMNALS – We now have available a few large-print hymnals for those of us who need some assistance because of eyesight difficulties.  If you or someone you know would prefer to use a large-print hymnal, please ask any usher for assistance.

MEN’S BIBLE STUDY CLASS – Rise and shine!  This week we will begin studying the Book of Acts which records the birth, growing pains and spread of the early Christian church.  All materials will be provided.  All guys are welcome to join us each Wednesday at 6:00 a.m. for lots of coffee, a light breakfast and studying God’s Word!

07/22/2012 Announcement

IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please include Chris Schenkel as he recovers from his surgery, Arlene Stern as she continues with her staph infection treatments, Kahlen Salis as she begins her chemotherapy and radiation treatments, our many other members undergoing cancer treatments, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least two people in your life who do not yet know Christ.

BONE MARROW DONOR REGISTRY – Please take a few minutes to read the flyer on the bulletin board about becoming a bone marrow donor or a supporter of the program.  The need for a bone marrow transplant impacted one family in Freeman a few months ago and is now affecting another family.  Being a bone marrow donor – or just providing financial support – is a very rewarding and a very needed way to help our community’s children.

KAHLEN SALIS UPDATE – Kahlen, age 3, has begun testing procedures in preparation for chemotherapy and radiation treatments that will precede a bone marrow transplant later this month at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  Your prayers, calls and kind expressions of hope have been deeply appreciated.  (s) Kahlen’s family

LARGE-PRINT HYMNALS – Our church’s Thrivent committee has decided to use some of our Thrivent Choice funds to purchase 10 large-print hymnals for those of us who need some assistance because of eyesight difficulties.  These hymnals (in a 3-ring binder format) include the various Orders of Worship that we use as well as the words for all of the hymns.  The music for the hymns is not provided.  If you or someone you know would prefer to use a large-print hymnal, please ask any usher for assistance.  And THANK YOU, Thrivent Committee, for your generosity!

QUARTERLY VOTERS’ MEETING NOTICE – Our Summer voters’ meeting will be held next Sunday, July 29th, at 10:45 in the Fellowship Hall.

A SPECIAL THANKS to all of the volunteers who helped this last week during VBS and also to those who donated items and helped decorate.  We all had so much fun during the week and we could not have done it without all of your help!!  (s) Board of Education

YOUTH GROUP LEADER – We are looking for one or more adults to lead our Youth Group beginning this Fall.  If you are interested, please contact the Pastor.  And our grateful thanks go out to Bob and Karen Pidde for their many years of service to our youth group.

LADIES AID will not meet in August.  Lee Lagendyk is on Altar Guild and Alice Fliginger is the Visiting Helper.  Coffee Hour Committee for August 5th is Sharon Pfeiffer, Millie Gunderson and Clarice Haar.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR July 29 – “The Redeemer or the Rationalization?” will be the theme for Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus’ sermon.  The Lutheran Hour is broadcast on Sunday mornings at 8:30 on 105.9 FM (KMIT) and at 9:30 on 570 AM (WNAX).

MAIN STREET LIVING – July 29 – will not be broadcast this week due to the Olympics.

DID YOU KNOW that on October 25, 1959, a special voters meeting in our church decided to build a new church rather than remodel the old one?  In early 1960 the building committee was chosen.  In January of 1961 a full square block of land was acquired and in January of 1962 the voters gave their final “go ahead” to the construction at a cost of $125,000.  Actual construction began in the Spring of 1962 – 50 years ago already!  In August, 1962 a severe thunderstorm damaged part of the newly constructed walls and on December 2, 1962 another storm toppled the bell tower.  Construction was finished in the Spring of 1963 with the church dedication taking place on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1963.

THE LORD’S SUPPER is celebrated at this congregation in the confession that, as our Lord says, He gives us not only bread and wine but His very Body and Blood to eat and drink for the forgiveness of our sins and to strengthen our union with Him and with one another.  Our Lord invites to His table all those who trust His words, repent of their sins and set aside any refusal to forgive and love others as He forgives and loves us.  Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s Body and Blood unworthily (that is, they do not recognize the bread and wine to also be His Body and Blood) do so to their great harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet baptized, instructed in the Christian faith or those who hold a confession differing from that of this congregation and the LC-MS and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, are asked to speak with the Pastor before the worship service.
