02/17/2013 Announcements

IN YOUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember Jerry Saner who had a brother pass away this last week, Kermit Schrag who has been readmitted to the Freeman hospital, our several other members who are hospitalized or recovering at home, those in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

The JACKSON LEE VETCH MEMORIAL FUND kick-off event has been rescheduled to next Sunday afternoon, February 24th from 4:00 until 6:00 at Dave’s Grille.

The Bible study class on CHRISTIAN CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND RECONCILIATION has been rescheduled to next Sunday evening, February 24th at 6:30.

LENTEN DEVOTIONS (written by Lutheran Hour Ministries) were distributed after last week’s worship service.  Additional copies are in the library.

THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS – Just a reminder that eligible benefit members of Thrivent have until March 31, 2013, to direct any remaining 2012 Choice Dollars.  After that date, the unused Choice Dollars expire.  If you have any questions, please contact Brian Knittel or any Thrivent committee member.

Please check the kitchen for any containers that may belong to you and remove them by February 28th.  What is left will be donated to the Et Cetera Shoppe.

LARGE-PRINT HYMNALS – If anyone desires to use a large-print hymnal, we will make available as many as we need.  Just let any of the ushers know.  Thanks.

ST PAUL MOVIE MATINEE – Please join us February 24th at 1:30 p.m. for an inspiring story, “Letters to God.”  Tyler Doherty is an extraordinary 8-year-old boy.  Surrounded by a loving family and community and armed with the courage of his faith, he faces his daily battle with cancer with bravery and grace.  To Tyler, God is a friend, a teacher and the Ultimate Pen Pal.  Tyler’s prayers take the form of letters which he composes and mails on a daily basis.  This is based on a true story and anyone who sees it will be touched in such a positive way.  As always, popcorn and fellowship will be provided.  Hope to see you there!

THE BOARD OF EDUCATION would like to reward the students for all their hard work and dedication by arranging a “Crazy” Sunday activity.  This is meant to be a fun and entertaining activity.  Once a month for the remaining spring quarter we will have a “crazy” theme encouraging the teachers and students to be creative and dress up or down with class photos being taken and a winner chosen from each class.  So please do not be alarmed if you see some of our congregation not in typical Sunday attire.  We hope the congregation will have fun also and support our youth in this activity.  Thank you.
Feb 24th:  Hillbilly/Farmer Sunday
March 24th:  Pajama Sunday
April 28th:  Mix & Match Sunday (clashing colors/plaids & stripes
or polka dots)
May 18th:  Crazy Hat/Hair Sunday

VALENTINE SUPPER will be held tonight starting at 5:15.  It will be a fun time for food and fellowship.

THE LORD’S SUPPER at St. Paul Lutheran Church is administered in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.  It is celebrated in the confidence that we receive – in, with and under the consecrated bread and wine – our Savior’s true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  All who commune at this altar are making this public confession of the faith that we believe and teach as is written in the Holy Scriptures.  If you are not a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, please speak with the Pastor before the worship service.

Midweek Lenten Services – The theme for this year’s Lenten season will be “Mountains of Faith.”  In this sermon series we will ‘visit’ real mountains, named in the Bible, which served as a stage for critical Biblical events.  A soup and sandwich supper will be offered beginning at 5:45.  All services will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Please mark your calendars and please bring a friend as you join us for worship!  The mountains that we will visit this year will be:
Wed., Feb. 20      “Mount Sinai – God Gives Us Guidance
Wed., Feb. 27      “Mount Carmel – Standing Faithful
Wed., Mar. 6       “Mount Zion – A Place of Worship and Prayer
Wed., Mar. 13      “Mount Hebron – A Place of Refuge
Wed., Mar. 20      “Mount Gerizim – A Place of Blessing
Thur., Mar. 28      “Mount Olivet – The Faith of Our Lord
Fri., Mar. 29         “Mount Calvary – Paid in Full
