ATTENTION DARTBALL PLAYERS: This week’s game is Monday, February 4--Freeman at Parkston.  Game time is 7:30 p.m.  (If you want to carpool, meet at St. Paul’s at 6:45 p.m.)

LADIES AID and LWML will meet on February 7th at 2:00 pm for Bible Study with Pastor Makelin.  Hostess for the meeting is Cindy Hofer.  Visiting Helper is open and Sharon Pfeiffer is in charge of Altar Flowers for February.

STEAK SUPPER VALENTINE’S FUNDRAISER scheduled for February 10th. 5:30 and 6:30 time slots available.  Sign up on the bulletin board today or with a Youth Group Member next Sunday.  We would like as many as possible signed up on or before Sunday Feb 3rd.  The $15 meal will include lettuce salad, grilled steak, cheesy potatoes, vegetable, dessert, punch and coffee.

There will be a short meeting for THE SAMARITAN GROUP Feb. 17^th following church. Any ladies interested in joining or remaining a member please plan on attending. If you cannot attend please let LaNae Harberts  or Kristi Dannenbring know if you would like to join our group or if you plan on continuing to be a part of our group.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS to help with flowers on the Altar, if you are willing to furnish flowers, put them on the Altar and then remove them after the service please sign the sheet on the bulletin board in the fellowship hall. We need volunteers for these months, March, June, July and August.

WE ALSO NEED A FEW VOLUNTEERS to go and visit with our members that are at the Salem Home for the Aged, the Nursing Home and also some that are still in their own homes but unable to be out and about anymore. If you are willing to be a Visiting Helper, please sign the sheet on the bulletin board; the months available are February, April and August of 2019 and February 2020.

IF YOU, OR YOUR GROUP, would like to host a meal before the midweek services, please see the bulletin board to sign up.  So far we have: March 6 - Ash Wednesday - No Meal, March 13 - Youth Group. MISSION/MINISTRY OF THE MONTH IS The SALEM MENNONITE HOME.  While not a  mission/ministry we support with our (St. Paul) budget, or a Registered Service Organization (RSO) of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, it is a local non-profit assisted living organization that many of our members reside (currently seven from St. Paul).  As you may have read in the newspaper, they have new plans for the future and are invited to tell you those plans on the 24th after services.  Again, as the mission/ministry focus for the month, a free-will basket will be placed at the window of the kitchen if you are so moved to donate and will be sent to them at the end of the month. – Pastor

WE ARE GLAD YOU ARE HERE!

HOLY COMMUNION is celebrated in our worship service today.  What a joy and privilege!  In this Sacrament our Lord gives unto us not only bread and wine, but also His very body and blood to eat and drink.  In this Sacrament He assures us that our sins are forgiven and He strengthens our faith.  To our guests who desire to receive Holy Communion, we ask that you consider the following:  If you do not believe in Jesus as your Savior, do not believe in the Real Presence of the Sacrament, or have never received instruction on how to prepare yourself for Communion, you should refrain from receiving the Sacrament, but are encouraged to come to the altar for a blessing, indicated by folding the arms over the chest.  We do this not to offend, but to honor the faith we hold at St. Paul Lutheran.  If you have any questions regarding communion, please speak to the Pastor or an Elder before service begins.

ATTENTION DARTBALL PLAYERS: The 2019 season will soon begin.  There will be a PRACTICE TODAY, at 3:00 pm at St. Paul/Freeman.  If you have not played dartball and are interested come to this practice and check it out.  (Men. women,and teenagers are welcome to participate.)  There is no cost.  THE FIRST GAME is Monday, January 7,2019—Mitchell at Freeman.  Game time is 7:30 pm.  For more information, call Rev. NEW MEMBER CLASSES start in January.  The Bible study on Tuesday nights (7:00pm) have been slowly going through Lutheranism 101, but will switch to covering Basic Christian Doctrine (which could lead to membership) in five weeks.  People who may be interested are possible new members, catechism kids (study ahead or catch up), other denominations (we can cover differences in teachings at the end), or anyone who would like to review the basic doctrines of the faith. Dates are; Jan 8, 15, 22, 28 and February 5.  Please let pastor know so he can have materials ready.

Susan Cox, Alice Fliginger, Norby & Marlene Geidel, Millie Gunderson, Ella Hein, Connie Hinckley, Wyona Hofer, LaVonne Knittel, Ruth Koerner, Lee Lagendyk, Melton & Lorna Langle,  Bernice Pfeiffer, Delores Pidde, Henrietta Rhoades, Myron Schaffer, also Betty Bender & Reno Mettler.  Christmas cards were sent to June Heckenlaible in California, Lucille Rembold in Miller, and Marie Wrenn in Sioux City, IA.

If anyone has bud vases they no longer need please bring them to the church kitchen and mark them for the visiting committee, we will start saving vases for our next year deliveries. Thank you very much.

IN ADVENT, we wait for the Nativity of our Lord: The Gloria in Excelsis (LSB 187) is the song of the angels at the birth of Christ, so it is not sung...yet.  In Advent, we wait for them to sing.  Also, the Alleluia (LSB 190) is omitted, and just a verse is read.

MAIN STREET LIVING – December 30, 2018:  The message for the last Sunday of 2018 is delivered by Rev.  Nabil Nour, third Vice President of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and Pastor at Trinity Lutheran in Hartford, South Dakota.  Titled “The Firstborn” the message is based on Exodus 13: 1-2.  .  The program is interpreted and closed captioned for the hearing impaired.  Additional information is available on the web site: www.mainstreetliving.com.

NEW MEMBER CLASSES start in January.  The Bible study on Tuesday nights (7:00pm) have been slowly going through Lutheranism 101, but will switch to covering Basic Christian Doctrine (which could lead to membership) in five weeks.  People who may be interested are possible new members, catechism kids (study ahead or catch up), other denominations (we can cover differences in teachings at the end), or anyone who would like to review the basic doctrines of the faith. Dates are; Jan 8, 15, 22, 28 and February 5.  Please let pastor know so he can have materials ready.

HOLY COMMUNION is celebrated in our worship service today.  What a joy and privilege!  In this Sacrament our Lord gives unto us not only bread and wine, but also His very body and blood to eat and drink.  In this Sacrament He assures us that our sins are forgiven and He strengthens our faith.  To our guests who desire to receive Holy Communion, we ask that you consider the following:  If you do not believe in Jesus as your Savior, do not believe in the Real Presence of the Sacrament, or have never received instruction on how to prepare yourself for Communion, you should refrain from receiving the Sacrament, but are encouraged to come to the altar for a blessing, indicated by folding the arms over the chest.  We do this not to offend, but to honor the faith we hold at St. Paul Lutheran.  If you have any questions regarding communion, please speak to the Pastor or an Elder before service begins.

IN ADVENT, we wait for the Nativity of our Lord: The Gloria in Excelsis (LSB 187) is the song of the angels at the birth of Christ, so it is not sung...yet.  In Advent, we wait for them to sing.  Also, the Alleluia (LSB 190) is omitted, and just a verse is read.

MAIN STREET LIVING is the CHRISTMAS Project for LADIES AID and LWML.  We welcome your support for this TV ministry.  There will be a basket in the fellowship hall for contributions.  Funds will be matched. Thank you for your help. 

CATECHISM switches to 4:30-6:00 from the 6:30-8:00pm time for Dec.  12, and 19 and will be not be held again until January 2, when we will meet at 6:30pm again. Complete Test 1 packets to be complete on December 19- Pastor

THE CHOIR will be caroling at the Hospital and Nursing Home at 6:00 p.m. and the Salem Home at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 18^th.  All are welcome to come and listen.
