PERSONAL NOTE FROM PASTOR:  I would just like everyone to know how impressed I am with all those who helped with Vacation (Vocation) Bible School this past week.  I talked them into new material, so it was different than what they were used to, so after a rocky start, they stepped up to the challenge and taught the kids God's Holy Word (including the Ten Commandments! - but especially, that Christ died for you!)  Thanks be to God for the saints that risked their sanity to teach those young Christians, and also thanks be to God for His gracious gift revealed in the little ones who come to Him.  If you know of someone who helped with VBS, please thank them on behalf of a member of the congregation of St. Paul, Freeman. Solo De Gloria.

THANK YOU, whoever gave out a printed service to my mother and brother who visited last Sunday.  They mentioned that they did not want to sit up front, as they did not know when to stand, sit, what page to be on, and so on, so they wanted to sit back a ways to watch what to do by observing the people in front of them, but with the printed service however, they thought they could have sat in front.  It was all there!  This is exactly what these printed services are for; those who struggle with handling the heavy hymnal or who are unfamiliar without liturgical practices.  Thanks again for your good work anonymous member! - Pastor

CIRCUIT LAY LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE – The next Circuit Lay Leadership Conferences will meet at St. Martin in Alexandria on Saturday, June 16 from 10:00 to 2:00. As you know, the CLLC meets three times per year and, while initially intended for the leadership of our congregations (elders and presidents), it has become more of a circuit-wide Bible study on various topics. All the members of our circuit congregations are invited and encouraged to attend. On June 16, the topic will be Creation. Some of you may be aware of some of the concerns being voiced as “theistic evolution” seems to be making some inroads in our Synod in various places. At the next CLLC we will be discussing the topic of biblical creation and why the 6-day creation (with God resting on the 7th day) is an important cornerstone of all biblical/Christian theology. We will gather at St. Martin at 10:00 for an opening devotion followed by a video by Dr. David Menton of Answers in Genesis entitled Not a Chance. Following lunch we will have a time of open discussion on the topic of creation and evolution and then a short circuit business meeting. We will be done by 2:00. Please attend if you can! NOT A CHANCE – a video by Dr. David Menton of Answers in Genesis will be shown at our next Circuit Lay Leadership Conference (see the above announcement).  Dr. David Menton explains that evolution doesn't stand a chance when compared to the truth of science, and most importantly, God's Word. He uses practical illustrations to demonstrate the "integrated complexity" that would be necessary for evolution to be true. In a respectful way, Menton demonstrates why a person must have a sizable amount of credulity in order to buy into the tale of evolution. His warm teaching style and enjoyable wit make this DVD fun to follow and easy to understand, so families are encouraged to attend.

MAIN STREET LIVING – June 03, 2018:  Today’s message is presented by Rev. Matthew Resner of Immanuel Lutheran in Menno, SD, and St. Paul’s Lutheran church in Scotland, SD.  The message “You Are Free to Rest in Christ”, and is based on Mark 2: 23-28. 

This Wednesday, at 9:00am, the LADIES BIBLE STUDY will meet at the church.  Currently, we are covering the Bible in general and will be picking out a book of the Bible or a book study.  All Ladies are invited.

Reminder: THE MEN'S BIBLE STUDY meets at 6:00am at the church on Wednesday morning.  Currently we are studying the liturgy, and have plans on studying a book called "Man Up" next.  All men are invited

UMBRELLAS WANTED...and not just for our recent rains, but Harriet Schaeffer from Menno is collecting umbrellas for Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk to send to the Philippines where when it rains there, it pours.  If you would like to donate, she asks that you give her a call at 387-2788.

HOSPITAL AUXILIARY FUND DRIVE - It is a privilege to have the Freeman Regional Health Services in our community.  The Hospital Auxiliary is having their annual fund drive during the month of May and are asking for donations that will help to purchase needed equipment for the hospital, nursing home, and clinic. There is a free will basket in the fellowship hall at coffee hour during the month of May.  Your participation in this fund drive will be greatly appreciated.

HOLY COMMUNION is celebrated in our worship service today.  What a joy and privilege!  In this Sacrament our Lord gives unto us not only bread and wine, but also His very body and blood to eat and drink.  In this Sacrament He assures us that our sins are forgiven and He strengthens our faith.  To our guests who desire to receive Holy Communion, we ask that you consider the following:  If you do not believe in Jesus as your Savior, do not believe in the Real Presence of the Sacrament, or have never received instruction on how to prepare yourself for Communion, you should refrain from receiving the Sacrament, but are encouraged to come to the altar for a blessing, indicated by folding the arms over the chest.  We do this not to offend, but to honor the faith we hold at St. Paul Lutheran.  If you have any questions regarding communion, please speak to the Pastor or an Elder before service begins.

This Wednesday, at 9:00am, the LADIES BIBLE STUDY will meet at the church.  Currently, we are covering the Bible in general and will be picking out a book of the Bible or a book study.  All Ladies are invited.

Reminder: THE MEN'S BIBLE STUDY meets at 6:00am at the church on Wednesday morning.  Currently we are studying the liturgy, and have plans on studying a book called "Man Up" next.  All men are invited

UMBRELLAS WANTED...and not just for our recent rains, but Harriet Schaeffer from Menno is collecting umbrellas for Orphan Grain Train in Norfolk to send to the Philippines where when it rains there, it pours.  If you would like to donate, she asks that you give her a call at 387-2788.

 

HOSPITAL AUXILIARY FUND DRIVE - It is a privilege to have the Freeman Regional Health Services in our community.  The Hospital Auxiliary is having their annual fund drive during the month of May and are asking for donations that will help to purchase needed equipment for the hospital, nursing home, and clinic. There is a free will basket in the fellowship hall at coffee hour during the month of May.  Your participation in this fund drive will be greatly appreciated.

 

IT IS PENTECOST AND SUNDAY SUNDAE.  Instead of the opening hymn today, the Sunday School will sing.  Also please join us after services for a Sunday School Sundae during fellowship and coffee hour.  Praise God for the gift of the Holy Spirit among our Sunday School youth and teachers.
