09-04-2011 Announcements

IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember our shut-in members, our inactive members and at least two people in your life who don’t know Christ.

SEPTEMBER IS A MONTH OF FIRSTS! – Summer will be over soon. Several of our church’s activities will be restarting in September so be sure to check your calendar. The 7th will be the first choir practice. The 11th will be Sunday School Rally Day. The 18th will be the first day of Sunday School and the first Mentor/Mentee meeting of the new year. The 13th will be the first day of our Fall Tuesday Evening Bible class and the 14th will be the first day of Midweek School and the first Confirmation class. Keep your calendar handy so that you don’t miss out on these and other important dates!

CONFIRMAND / PARENT MEETING – There is a mandatory meeting for this year’s confirmation students AND their parents today after the worship service. The first confirmation class will be on Sept. 14th.

CHOIR PRACTICE will resume on Sept. 7th at 8:00. Hooray! All who are high school-aged and above and are interested in being in our choir should contact Jane at (605) 925-7069 as soon as possible. No prior choir experience is necessary! Newcomers are always welcome to help us lift our voices and give God all the glory!

14th ANNUAL BIKE FOR LIFE will be held Saturday, Sept. 10, led by Pastor Nabil Nour from Redeemer Lutheran Church, Armor, SD to The Alpha Center, Sioux Falls, SD. As has been in past years, anyone wishing to join the ride, either by bicycle or support vehicle is welcome to do so at any point over the 100 plus mile route. Details about participation will be posted on the Fellowship Hall bulletin board. Lutherans For Life will again serve the noon luncheon for the riders and support vehicle drivers. In addition to the commitments of the time and food items received to date, a sign-up sheet for helpers and additional items will be posted on the bulletin board.

FLEET FOR LITTLE FEET – This year we are pleased to announce that the FLEET FOR LITTLE FEET mobile ultrasound unit will be in the church parking lot on Sept 10th from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to stop by and see the unit that you have been hearing about and so generously helping to support its mission over the past years.

LFL SEMINAR – In addition, Heather Otten from Immanuel Lutheran in Dimock will offer the presentation “Abortion, Only One Question” at 1 p.m. (also on Sept. 10th) with Q & A to follow. Heather will be with us on-site from 10 a.m. to visit with you and do Q & A on life issues. Please mark your calendars and plan to stop by. If you have any questions, please contact Richard or Bobbie Salis at 925-7529. If no answer, please leave a message.

THE BAZAAR COMMITTEEhas started making plans for the November 3rd event, which will run from 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Food donations are needed for chili soup, vegetable soup, chicken noodle soup, chicken sandwich meat, tavern, salads, pies, cake, pickles, crackers, & coffee. We will also need workers for the day and evening shifts. We will again have the Country Store, Stitchery/Crafts Booth, and the Lunch Counter. Please see or call Garnet Stern (925-7298), Mildred Siekmann (925-7050), or Sharon Pfeiffer (925-7604) if you are willing to donate food or work.

SCHNABEL-MEHLHAFF WEDDING – On Saturday, Sept. 10th, Brian Mehlhaff and Tracey Schnabel will enter the holy estate of matrimony according to God’s Word. They desire our prayers so that they may begin their marriage in God’s Name and with His blessing. We thank the Lord for creating the institution of marriage and ask God continue to bless Brian and Tracey with peace and love. May this couple be in faithful service to our Lord and reflect His love by showing love to and for each other.

SD RIGHT TO LIFE CONVENTION – At 9:30 on September 17th in the Lakota Events Hall in Tea, the South Dakota Right to Life Convention will begin. The day will be filled with pro-life speakers and presenters, and is planned to be done by 5:30. Everyone is encouraged to attend and support this very important organization. Additional convention details are on the flyer posted on the bulletin board.

LHM APPRECIATION DINNER – There will be an invitation-only dinner on Sept. 17th for everyone who financially supported Lutheran Hour Ministries in 2010. If you have received an invitation, please RSVP as indicated on the invitation before Sept. 10th. Pastor Seltz will be the featured speaker.

INSTALLATION OF SUNDAY SCHOOL TEACHERS – Our Sunday School teachers will be installed during the Sept. 11th worship service so (hint!) all teachers should be in church that day! Classes will begin on September 18th.

RALLY DAY PICNIC: The congregation is invited to a potluck to celebrate the opening of Sunday School on September 11th after church. Please bring a salad, side dish, or dessert. Brats, hot dogs, and beverages will be provided. We will introduce the teachers to their students, wrap up our summer mission project, and have other activities. Sunday School classes begin on September 18th. Please join us!

MAIN STREET LIVING – Sept. 11, 2011 – Kid’s Crossing depicts Janitor Bob talking about what it means to follow Jesus. The featured speaker is Rev. Brad Urbach from Faith Lutheran Church in Pierre. The sermon theme is “Twin Towns.” The hymns are “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,” “God Loves the World” and “The Church’s One Foundation.” Main Street Living may be seen each Sunday morning at 10:00 on KDLT-NBC Sioux Falls and may also be viewed on the web at www.mainstreetliving.com. It is interpreted for the hearing impaired.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR – Sept. 11, 2011 – Rev. Gregory Seltz’ sermon theme, based on Matthew 18:21-35, will be “Forgiven Forgivers – That is What the World Needs Now.” God’s justice may keep evil at bay but only God’s grace can overcome sin and reconcile enemies. Forgiven forgivers become extensions of God’s grace to others. The Lutheran Hour is broadcast every Sunday morning at 8:30 on 105.9 FM (KMIT) and at 9:30 on 570 AM (WNAX).
