IN YOUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember the family of Delphine Laber who stepped into eternal Glory last Sunday as well as our hospitalized members, those recovering at home, those in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

DELPHINE LABER’S ENTRANCE INTO GLORY – We pray for peace and comfort for the family of Delphine Laber whom God called home last Sunday, Feb. 24^th.  We pray that God would comfort all who mourn with the hope of the glorious resurrection of the body and a happy reunion in heaven, and that He would sustain the family with the knowledge that all who remain faithful will be given the crown of eternal life and will be in our Lord’s presence forevermore.  Delphine’s funeral was held last Friday, March 1^st.

NEW MEMBER WELCOME – During our worship service today we will receive Chris and Jenny Peters and their children (Luke and Rylee) as new members.  They live here in Freeman and have been attending our church.  Chris works for Golden West and Jenny is a radiologist for the hospital in Tripp.  We ask that everyone please give them a warm welcome in joining our church family!

The MELCHER SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE has begun accepting applications for its 2013 awards.  Please contact the Pastor if you need an application form.  Eligible applicants are members of St. Paul Lutheran Church who are either high school seniors or college students.  Completed forms may be returned to the Pastor or to any of the 3 committee members (Betsy Knodel, Bobbi Salis and Diane Schnabel) on or before the April 30, 2013 deadline.

LADIES AID will meet Mar. 6^th after worship for a business meeting.  Hostess will be Joan Dreessen.  For March, Mildred Siekmann will be on Altar Guild; Visiting Helper is Julie Huber.  Coffee Hour committee for March 3^rd is Joan Dreessen, Millie Gunderson and Corrine Handel.

SAVE THE DATE – On Tuesday, April 9^th, St. Paul will be serving at The Banquet in Sioux Falls.  They suggest we have 40+ people there to help serve, along with a small group that goes early to help prepare the supper meal.  Please consider being a part of this worthwhile event.  More details will come later and a sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board.

GAMES AND PUZZLES – We will also be doing a game/puzzle drive for The Banquet throughout March.  We are asking for new or slightly used board games, puzzles and color/activity books.  We ask if the games or puzzles have been used that you please check to see that no pieces are missing.  The Banquet will distribute these items at a later date but we will have someone transport them that evening to Sioux Falls.  There is a large plastic tub in the Fellowship Hall for collecting these items.

The JACKSON LEE VETCH MEMORIAL FUND kick-off event will be held today, Feb. 24^th, from 4:00 until 6:00 at Dave’s Grille.

The Bible study class on CHRISTIAN CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND RECONCILIATION will be held tonight at 6:30.

ST PAUL MOVIE MATINEE – Please join us at 1:30 this afternoon for an inspiring story, “Letters to God.”  Tyler Doherty is an extraordinary 8-year-old boy.  Surrounded by a loving family and community and armed with the courage of his faith, he faces his daily battle with cancer with bravery and grace.  To Tyler, God is a friend, a teacher and the Ultimate Pen Pal.  Tyler’s prayers take the form of letters which he composes and mails on a daily basis.  This is based on a true story and anyone who sees it will be touched in such a positive way.  As always, popcorn and fellowship will be provided.  Hope to see you there!

Please check the kitchen for any containers that may belong to you and remove them by February 28^th.  What is left will be donated to the Et Cetera Shoppe.

The Bible study class on CHRISTIAN CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND RECONCILIATION has been rescheduled to next Sunday evening, February 24^th at 6:30.

LENTEN DEVOTIONS (written by Lutheran Hour Ministries) were distributed after last week’s worship service.  Additional copies are in the library.

THRIVENT CHOICE DOLLARS – Just a reminder that eligible benefit members of Thrivent have until March 31, 2013, to direct any remaining 2012 Choice Dollars.  After that date, the unused Choice Dollars expire.  If you have any questions, please contact Brian Knittel or any Thrivent committee member.

VALENTINE SUPPER will be held tonight starting at 5:15.  It will be a fun time for food and fellowship.

THE LORD’S SUPPER at St. Paul Lutheran Church is administered in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.  It is celebrated in the confidence that we receive – in, with and under the consecrated bread and wine – our Savior’s true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  All who commune at this altar are making this public confession of the faith that we believe and teach as is written in the Holy Scriptures.  If you are not a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, please speak with the Pastor before the worship service.

IN YOUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember Myron Schaffer who has been transferred back to the VA hospital in Sioux Falls, Matt Dannenbring as he recovers at home from back surgery, Lonnie Graber as he recovers in the Freeman hospital from knee replacement surgery, Ted Hofer as he recovers at home also from knee replacement surgery, those in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

ANNUAL REPORT – Thank you to those who have turned in their reports.  A few are still missing.  Please get them to Aleta or Pastor so the annual report can get finished.  Thank you.

VALENTINE SUPPER will be held on February 17^th.  If you would like to sign up for a time, please see one of the youth or leaders to get the time you would like.  There will be someone after today’s worship services that will take your name and the time you would like to come.  Please plan to attend for a good meal and good fellowship.

The SOUTH DAKOTA GIDEONS wish to thank St. Paul Lutheran Church for inviting them to give their presentation after last week’s worship service.  They enjoyed worshipping with us, talking with those whom they knew and meeting those whom they didn’t know!  The freewill offering collected for Gideon International was $274.50.  Thank you to all who donated.  Lives will be changed and more copies of the Bible can be distributed because of those donations.

The Bible study class on CHRISTIAN CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND RECONCILIATION discussed at the voters’ meeting will be held this evening, beginning at 6:30.  If you are planning to attend, please let Brian Knittel know so that we can prepare enough handouts.  Everyone is encouraged to attend, though, even if you haven’t let us know in advance.

The Jackson Lee Vetch Memorial Fund kick-off event is this afternoon from 3:30 to 5:30 at Dave’s Grille.  Everyone is invited to attend this open house event.  The fund aims to increase awareness of Christian camps and to help South Dakota youth attend those camps.  Information about the fund, the camps and the application process will be available.  For more information or to make a donation, please visit www.jacksonleevetchmemorialfund.org or mail to P O Box 105, Freeman, SD.

IN YOUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember Kermit Schrag (in the Freeman hospital) who continues to have pneumonia difficulties, Matt Dannenbring as he recovers at home from back surgery, Lonnie Graber as he recovers (in the Freeman hospital) from knee replacement surgery, those in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

THE SOUTH DAKOTA GIDEONS have a short presentation for us after today’s worship service.  Julian Brodland, representing this Christian Businessmen’s Association, will discuss the Gideons’ mission to purchase and distribute the Bible around the world and what we can do to help them.  We give praise and thanks to our God that so many people have been given access to the Holy Scriptures because of the Gideons.  Last year alone 287,000 Gideons and Auxiliary members worldwide distributed over 84 million copies of the Bible in 194 countries in 93 languages at an average cost of $1.33.  Since 1908, about 1.7 billion Bibles have been distributed worldwide!  On average, more than two copies of God’s Word are distributed every second all year long.  Over one million Bibles are distributed every 4½ days!  We are one of 49 churches in the Freeman area who support the Gideons and we look forward to their presentation.  A freewill offering for the Gideons’ work will also be accepted today’s service.

Our 2013 CHURCH OFFICERS being installed today are Maria White (Board of Education), Ted Hofer (Board of Elders), Bob Pidde (Board of Evangelism), Karen Pidde (Board of Finance), Matt Rigo (Board of Trustees), Stuart Schrag (Board of Ushers) and Leann Schulz-Thomas (Treasurer).  We thank God for raising up these servants to work in His kingdom and pray that He will give them the wisdom, strength and courage to fulfill the duties of their respective offices.

LADIES AID will meet on February 7^th at 7:00.  We will be studying Lesson 9 – “Stress Less” followed by the Business Meeting.  Hostess for the evening is Susan Borglum.  Sharon Pfeiffer is on Altar Guild and Millie Gunderson is Visiting Helper for February.

ANNUAL VOTERS’ MEETING NOTICE – Our annual voters’ meeting will be held today in the Fellowship Hall right after the worship service.

OUR 2013 CHURCH OFFICERS will be installed during next week’s worship service.

A VOLUNTEER is needed to put flowers on the Altar during the month of July; if you are willing to do this please talk to Corrine Handel or Sharon Pfeiffer. Thank you.

RIDE THE BUS! – Winter weather is here so don’t forget that you can take advantage of Freeman’s bus service.  They will pick you up at your home in Freeman and drop you off at the church.  To return, they can pick you up either right after worship or after Sunday School.  All you have to do is call 661-6545 by at least 6:00 the prior Saturday evening and give them your address.  For our church’s members, please do not pay the driver directly.  Our church will pay the $3.00 round-trip fee for you.  If you wish to make a contribution to help pay for the bus system, please put your donation in our offering plate and designate it accordingly.  We will see to it that the funds are sent to where they are to go.

IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember Julie Huber and Rev. Weeman (who are recovering at home), Myron Schaffer (who is recovering in the VA hospital from leg amputation surgery), Rev. Nour [Redeemer, Armour] (who is hospitalized while recovering from heart surgery) and Wesley Olesen (in the Heart Hospital).  We also remember in our prayers our many members in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

PLEASE PRAYERFULLY CONSIDER using your God-given gifts and talents in service to Him and His church.  At our voters’ meeting next week we will need various offices and positions filled.  Please contact Chairman of the Congregation (Randy Koerner), either elder (Brian Knittel or Paul Wynia) or the Pastor if you are willing to have your name placed on the ballot.  Thanks!

COUNCIL MEETING – There will be a supplemental council meeting in the sanctuary immediately after church today to discuss additional items not addressed at our Wednesday meeting.

THE LORD’S SUPPER at St. Paul Lutheran Church is administered in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.  It is celebrated in the confidence that we receive – in, with and under the consecrated bread and wine – our Savior’s true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  All who commune at this altar are making this public confession of the faith that we believe and teach as is written in the Holy Scriptures.  If you are not a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, please speak with the Pastor before the worship service.

  

RIDE THE BUS! – Winter weather is here so don’t forget that you can take advantage of Freeman’s bus service.  They will pick you up at your home in Freeman and drop you off at the church.  To return, they can pick you up either right after worship or after Sunday School.  All you have to do is call 661-6545 by at least 6:00 the prior Saturday evening and give them your address.  For our church’s members, please do not pay the driver directly.  Our church will pay the $3.00 round-trip fee for you.  If you wish to make a contribution to help pay for the bus system, please put your donation in our offering plate and designate it accordingly.  We will see to it that the funds are sent to where they are to go.

IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please pray for a speedy and complete recovery for Rev. Weeman who recently had knee surgery and for Rev. Nour (Redeemer, Armour) who will undergo heart surgery on Jan. 16^th.  We also remember in our prayers our many members who are not feeling well but are not hospitalized (including Lee Lagendyk who fell and hurt herself), those in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

LENTEN SEASON SOUP AND SANDWICH SUPPERS are being scheduled.  The first one will be on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 13^th.  If any person, family or group would like to volunteer to do one of the Wednesday soup suppers, please contact the Pastor as soon as possible.  Thanks!  P.S. – Ash Wednesday has been spoken for.

DUANE THOMAS’ ENTRANCE INTO GLORY – We pray for peace and comfort for the family of Duane Thomas who was summoned home to heaven by his Lord on Monday, Dec. 31^st.  We give thanks to our Lord for His loving-kindness and for all of the mercies granted to Duane during his earthly life, especially for calling him to faith in Jesus Christ through Holy Baptism.  The funeral was held Jan. 4^th.

THANK YOU so much to everyone who gave us cards and gifts this Christmas season.  Truly your goodness is a witness to all.  We pray that God would continue to bestow His blessings upon every one of you.  Hosannas forever!  (s) Susan, Pastor and family

NEW YEAR’S EVE worship service will not be held this year.  However, we still encourage everyone to do their personal evening devotions, remembering that no matter what personal difficulties we will face next year, no matter what decisions we will have to make and no matter the times of uncertainty or anxiety in our lives, Jesus Christ … “who is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Heb. 13:8) … will be there to strengthen us, help us, comfort us and guide us.  Only God knows what 2013 will bring but whatever may happen, one thing remains the same:  Jesus Christ, who is “our God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast and our eternal home” (LSB 733 Verse 1).

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS in the church will be taken down on Friday, January 4^th, beginning at 6:00 pm.  If you have the time, would you please help us get the decorations and Christmas trees put back into storage?  Many hands will make light work!  Thank you in advance for your assistance!

MIDWEEK SCHOOL and CONFIRMATION CLASSES will resume January 2^nd!

We want to send A BIG THANK YOU to all God’s “angels” here on earth that contributed to our Christmas Mission Tree.  Your generosity was amazing and heaven-sent for those in need.  We collected 2 coats, 4 scarves, 23 blankets, 38 undergarments, 47 hats, 63 pairs of gloves and 103 pairs of socks.  Thank you so much for your participation and as well as for sharing the spirit of giving.  May God bless your Christmas!  (s) The Board of Ed
