FROM MAY 24TH UNTIL AUGUST 15th, 2011 Sarah Ruml will be in Wisconsin Dells living, working, studying the Bible, and ministering with several other college students from the Upper Midwest. Before leaving for the Dells, Sarah needs to raise $2,400 for the training program fee, room and board. She is asking God to surround her with a team of people who will each pray for and financially contribute anywhere from $25 to $500. The CDs and schedule will also be available in the library throughout the Lenten season. We also have available an abbreviated “Kidz Bible” version for our younger members. If you would like to have an extra CD to give to a friend or family member, that is encouraged as well. These CDs are yours to keep and use as often as you like. BERNARD WRENN’S ENTRANCE INTO GLORY. We pray for comfort for the family of Bernard Wrenn whom God called to his eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 6th. We give thanks to our Lord for His loving-kindness and for all of the mercies granted to Bernard during his earthly life, especially for calling him to faith in Jesus Christ through Holy Baptism. We pray that God would comfort all who mourn with the hope of the glorious resurrection of the body and a happy reunion in heaven, and that He would sustain the family with the knowledge that all who remain faithful will be given the crown of eternal life and will be in our Lord’s presence forevermore. Bernard’s home-going service was held on Thursday, Feb. 10th.

To serve our Savior and the youth of His Church the South Dakota District Youth Board is seeking your wisdom, guidance and involvement. BERNARD WRENN’S ENTRANCE INTO GLORY. We pray for comfort for the family of Bernard Wrenn whom God called to his eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 6th. We give thanks to our Lord for His loving-kindness and for all of the mercies granted to Bernard during his earthly life, especially for calling him to faith in Jesus Christ through Holy Baptism. We pray that God would comfort all who mourn with the hope of the glorious resurrection of the body and a happy reunion in heaven, and that He would sustain the family with the knowledge that all who remain faithful will be given the crown of eternal life and will be in our Lord’s presence forevermore. Bernard’s home-going service was held on Thursday, Feb. 10th.
THANK YOU: We wish to thank the Ladies Aid and all the workers for serving the lunch at Bernard’s funeral, and all the people who brought cakes and pickles. We are so thankful to the members of this congregation for everything that was done for our family. Marie Wrenn and all the family.

Susan and Pastor’s first grandchild was born last Sunday about 10:00 p.m. Throughout last week several people called or emailed their ‘congratulations’ and ‘best wishes’ for Baby Kayleigh Grace Cook and her parents, Justin and Kendra Cook. All are healthy and doing well; we thank God for that and for entrusting one of His children to Justin and Kendra’s care.

THE SD DISTRICT YOUTH BOARD needs your help! Youth ministry is face paced and changes even faster. To serve our Savior and the youth of His Church the South Dakota District Youth Board is seeking your wisdom, guidance and involvement. They will be holding 2 information-gathering meetings -- one on each end of the state. They especially value the input of our youth and encourage all church youth group members to attend. MAKE IT A HABIT to find a time and place for daily reading of your Bible. Try to do it everyday at that same time. John 20:31 says, “but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in His Name.” How can you read what has been written in God’s Word if you never open the cover? I Peter 3:15 says for us to “always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is within you.” How can you effectively speak about your faith to others if you don’t know the Word of God? President Theodore Roosevelt said, “If a man is not familiar with the Bible, he has suffered a loss which he had better make all possible haste to correct.” And, of course, God Himself also counsels us over a dozen times to meditate on His Word, doesn’t He? Anyone who can find such advice in the Bible before next Sunday should give the chapter and verse to the Pastor. Your prize awaits you!

We will be studying the parables of Jesus … exploring them in depth to see how God uses stories and images to portray spiritual truth. All men – younger and older – are welcome! Please join us for breakfast and our study of God’s Word.
Our Sunday morning adult classes will begin on Feb. 6th after the worship service and after we have had a chance to get our coffee cups filled! We will be studying what the Bible says about Heaven and Hell compared to what science and the world have to say about them. Jesus actually spoke about Heaven and Hell much more than many people realize. Please join us and hear Biblical answers and guidance on the afterlife!
Based upon our survey’s results, we will also start a Tuesday evening Bible Study class. Initially, we will meet in the Fellowship Hall at 7:00. Also as requested on most of the survey’s responses, this class will be held twice per month – on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday evenings – so the first class will be on Feb. 8th. Our first topic will be how we got the Bible … the vast number of preserved documents, the consistency of its theme from beginning to end, etc. The format for this class will be a combination of DVD and study guide.
Our Bible Study classes are being offered for YOUR benefit! No prior Biblical knowledge is required! Please join us in fellowship and in our study of God’s Word -- and bring a friend! This would be a GREAT time to start attending if you have been putting it off!

IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week, we pray for Phyllis Knittel, Darlene Schrag, Jerry Saner and Richard Salis as they recover at home as well as for our shut-in members, our inactive members and for at least two people in your life who don’t know Christ.
DARTBALL SEASON will be starting tomorrow. First game will be held at Clayton and we are in need of more players. If you are interested in playing, please contact Orville or Dean. Women are also welcome to join us!
SIGN UP SHEET: There is a signup sheet on the bulletin board in fellowship hall to sign up for a light snack for the children as they come here from school for Weekday school and Confirmation.
THE 2011 ANNUAL LIFE CONFERENCE has been scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22, at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, 629 9th Ave. in Brookings. Registration begins at 8:30; there is no charge. There is a poster on the Fellowship Hall bulletin board with additional Conference information. Everyone is encouraged to attend and support this worthwhile endeavor.
BIBLE STUDY SURVEY forms should be returned to the Pastor as soon as possible if you wish your opinion to be counted! If you wish to voice your views via e-mail, fax, text, phone call, snail mail, Morse Code or carrier pigeon, that is OK as well. Braille and hieroglyphic correspondence will be returned to sender.

LWML will meet Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Topic will be given by Marge and lunch will be served by Julie.
IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week, we pray for Phyllis Knittel as she recovers at home; for Darlene Schrag and Jerry Saner during their time of diagnosis and treatment; for Richard Salis hospitalized in Sioux Falls as well as for our shut-in members, our inactive members and for at least two people in your life who don’t know Christ.
LABORERS FOR CHRIST has been blessed over the past several months with a significant increase in inquiries and applications for their services. The process of recruiting new people into this ministry as project managers is a continuing and challenging one. If you (or someone you know) has experience in construction and has an interest in working with LFC as a project manager, please contact Dan Baker at (517) 206-2088. Thank you for your help, partnership and continued support.

HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH will have their January meeting at 7:00 at the parsonage this evening. Supper will be provided by the Pastor and his family at 6:00.
ELDER’S will meet Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm.
LADIES AID will meet Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. The meeting will include the election of a President and Treasurer. Nominated for President – Joan Dreessen and Sharon Pfeiffer. Nominated for Treasurer – Phyllis Knittel and Mildred Siekmann. Hostess for the month of January is Marlene Geidel, Altar Guild is Garnet Stern and Visiting Helper is Gerry Saner.

A NEW YEAR’S DAY WEDDING! We thank the Lord for His institution of marriage and earnestly ask for His blessings on Noah and Kara (nee Pidde) Nelson that they may abide in peace and love. May this couple remain in faithful service to our Lord and reflect His love by showing love to and for each other. Noah and Kara were married in Fargo yesterday, January 1st.
THE KANTOREI CHOIR of Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Indiana, will present music of the Christmas and Epiphany seasons, on Fri., Jan. 7 at 7:00 p.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2200 So. Western Avenue. The Kantorei Choir is a 19 voice men’s chorus. A free-will offering will be received for the work of the Kantorei, and a coffee hour will follow the presentation. You are cordially invited to attend!
