IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week we pray for Doris Albrecht, Olinda Stark, Arden and Arlene Stern, Pauline Waltner, the Samuel Pappas family (Sam’s ex-daughter-in-law committed suicide last week) and the family of LeAnne Albrecht as they mourn the death of LeAnne. We also keep in our prayers our shut-in members, our inactive members and at least two people in our lives who don’t know Christ.
THE FUNERAL SERVICE for LeAnne Albrecht was held last Wed., May 25th. LeAnne was received into Glory on May 22nd. We ask God to comfort her family in their time of grief with the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of all flesh on the Last Day and the subsequent joyful reunion in heaven of all believers. The flowers on the altar this morning are from LeAnne’s funeral.
ASCENSION DAY WORSHIP SERVICE – As the Church has done since the days of the Apostles, we, too, will celebrate the Ascension of our Lord into His Glory. This year’s Ascension observance (the 40th day after Easter) will be Thursday, June 2nd at 7:00 p.m. Please join us in the worship of our ascended Lord!
REMINDER – The Samaritan group will meet Wednesday, June 1st, at 6:30 p.m. at the church. Please bring the item(s) you signed up to donate for our project. Remember to come for supper!

REV. DALE SATTGAST, President of the SD District of the LCMS, received the Doctor of Letters degree from Concordia University, St. Paul at their commencement ceremony of May 13th. We congratulate him on receiving this special recognition and degree, and we thank God for the more than 30 years that Rev. Dr. Sattgast has worked in our Lord’s Kingdom.

We know that, per many Bible passages, God instituted government for our protection and it, therefore, has the duty and obligation to protect its citizens. Regardless of our varied political views, we can all agree that a society must hold in high regard the personal sacrifices made by so many Americans on a daily basis to keep us all safe. It is their sacrifices, in fact, that allow people in this country the privilege of expressing and practicing their viewpoints … including the anti-military viewpoint. Those who sacrifice for us include not only our military members and chaplains but also their families. We recognize these individuals in the church by acknowledging their sacrifice, praying for their safety and supporting our Synod’s Ministry to the Armed Forces.

As of this month, 36 critical positions remain unfilled. God has prepared in advance these exciting good works for His people. We are looking for projects that will help and encourage people in our congregation – people who are having health issues, unexpected expenses, loss of family or just need a pick-me-up for some reason. We welcome good news celebrations such as special birthdays, anniversaries and births. We encourage anyone to make suggestions on their own behalf or for others as well. We have placed a request box out on the spinner of extra bulletins and calendars in the Narthex. Our group will try to honor each request in some way.

Baccalaureate Sunday
We welcome you to our Baccalaureate service today where our 5 high school graduates (Taylor Koehn, Brandy Hora, Kory Henrichs, Collin Anderson and Jeremy Albrecht) and 3 college graduates (Tracey Schnabel, Brett Pidde and Tiffany Mehlhaff) will receive a blessing from the church. We pray that God will give them guidance and wisdom for the decisions about their life that they will be making in the years to come and that they will grow ever closer to Him in faith with their lives honoring the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Everyone is invited to stay for the reception after the service.
DISTRICT PLANNING CONFERENCE – If someone would like to represent our church at the District Planning Conference next Fall, please contact the Pastor. Each church in the SD District is allowed to have 1 representative if they so choose; this volunteer position is not required to be approved by our voters’ assembly. The 1-day conference will be held on Sept. 26th at Zion in Mitchell from 8:30 until 3:30.
PRE-2011(!) CONFIRMATION CLASS PICTURES – We are gathering as many former SPLC confirmation class pictures as we can for eventual display in our church. We would like to go back in history as far as possible. If you can locate a picture of your confirmation class (or your parents’ classes, your children’s classes, etc.), please loan it to the Pastor along with the names of everyone in the picture, the year of confirmation and your name. He will return it to you after making a copy for the church. An 8x10 picture is preferable but what-ever size you have will be gratefully accepted. Thank you in advance!

SUNDAY SCHOOL UPDATES – The last day of Sunday School will be May 22nd. We will be having Sunday School in the summer on June 26th, July 31st and August 28th. FREEMAN REGIONAL HOSPITAL AUXILIARY is conducting their annual fund drive. There is a basket in the Fellowship Hall for your donations. The Hospital Auxiliary uses these funds to purchase needed items for our local hospital/nursing home. There is also a sheet for you to sign if you are willing to help or donate for their annual soup day in October. We are very fortunate to have this health facility in our community; please contribute if you are able. Thank you.
THE FUNERAL SERVICE for Rev. Willard Koch (a former SPLC Pastor) was held last Monday, May 9th, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Glencoe, MN. Rev. Koch was received into Glory on May 5th. We ask God to comfort his wife and family in their time of grief with the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of all flesh on the Last Day and the subsequent joyful reunion in heaven of all believers.

SUMMER CAMP – We have received the information regarding Camp Minneboji’s 2011 summer camp schedule. Registration forms for Camp Week (June 19-25) are available here at the church or on-line at www.minneboji.com. The camp, for kids in Grades 4 thru 9, features Bible study, mission presentations, music, crafts, sports, recreation and the chance to meet new Christian friends. This year’s theme is “Angels.” The registration deadline is June 1st. If you are interested, please contact the Pastor for more information or check out their website.
ANNUAL LUTHERANS FOR LIFE DIAPER/LAYETTE drive will begin today and continue through Father’s Day, June 19. Diapers of all sizes are needed as well as diaper wipes, powders, lotions, baby bath items, shampoos, etc. Layette items such as receiving blankets, sleepers, booties, sweaters and other infant wear as well as any items that might be typically given as a shower gift are also welcome. A collection container will be in the Fellowship Hall.
SPECIAL PLATE OFFERING will be taken for the next two Sundays to help with the new furnace expenses. There will be a basket in the Fellowship Hall to drop off your donation.

Before leaving for the Dells, Sarah needs to raise $2,400 for the training program fee, room and board. She is asking God to surround her with a team of people who will each pray for and financially contribute anywhere from $25 to $500. MABEL HAAR’S ENTRANCE INTO GLORY – We pray for comfort for the family of Mabel Haar whom God called to her eternal rest on Friday, April 29th. We give thanks to our Lord for His loving-kindness and for all of the mercies granted to Mabel during her earthly life, especially for calling her to faith in Jesus Christ through Holy Baptism. We pray that God would comfort all who mourn with the hope of the glorious resurrection of the body and a happy reunion in heaven, and that He would sustain the family with the knowledge that all who remain faithful will be given the crown of eternal life and will be in our Lord’s presence forevermore. Mabel’s funeral was Thursday, May 5th.

IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week we pray for Doris Albrecht (in the hospital), for June Roth and Leann Albrecht (both recuperating at home), for June Heckenlaible and her family as they mourn the loss of Wally as well as for our shut-in members, our inactive members and for at least two people in your life who don’t know Christ. We also give praise, honor and thanks to God that Richard Salis’ treatments are finished and that his cancer is now in remission!

We welcome everyone to today’s Confirmation service and the bringing of our 8 confirmands -- Brianna Orcutt, Cole Paulson, Cailey Roth, Cody Roth, Josh Roth, Brian Schamber, Kendra Schamber and Travis Schnabel -- into the church as communicant members through the Rite of Confirmation. We pray that the Lord will continue to sanctify them through His Word and that they will continue to walk the road of life with their pathways brightened by the never-failing lamp of His Word. Everyone is invited to stay for the coffee and cake reception after the service.

Per Voters’ Assembly action at their last meeting, we will send in a $950 donation to help fund their continuing operations. The $382 difference is to be paid from our General Fund. Hosanna Ministries sends us their sincere thanks for joining with them to help fulfill the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20 to spread the Gospel to all nations.

ALBRECHT FAMILY – A benefit fund has been established for the Robert Albrecht family at CorTrust Bank. The fund is to help defray medical costs for both Doris and her daughter-in-law Leanne, as they battle cancer. Their friends and family are planning a benefit for later this Spring.

We note that they just released CDs in 13 more languages that are spoken by about 7.4 million people. Their goal is to produce CDs in 2,000 languages by the year 2016; these 2,000 languages cover 97% of the world’s population. It costs them about $950 to produce each of the 27 books of the New Testament in each language; thus, it costs almost $26,000 to produce the whole New Testament in any given language. Whatever financial help you can provide will be greatly appreciated and will be put to good use! Thank you!

4-17-2011 Announcements
IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week we pray for Doris Albrecht and Kenny Handel (both in the hospital), for Richard Salis, June Roth and Leann Albrecht (all recuperating at home) as well as for our shut-in members, our inactive members and for at least two people in your life who don’t know Christ.
QUARTERLY VOTERS’ MEETING will be held today after the worship service.
40-DAY BIBLE READING PLAN – Those of you who are participating in our challenge to read or listen to the whole New Testament during this year’s 40 days of Lent should have just finished Hebrews Chapter 10.
EASTER LILY REMINDER – For those of you who are planning to purchase an Easter lily for our altar next week and would like the person’s name in the bulletin for whom the flowers are given in memory of, please let the Pastor or Diane know as soon as possible but not later than Maundy Thursday (April 21st). Thanks.
MELCHER SCHOLARSHIP applications have been mailed to the high school senior members of St. Paul’s. College students are also eligible to apply for the scholarship. Please contact Garnet Stern for an application.
CONFIRMATION SUNDAY this year will May 1st. A reception for the confirmands will follow the worship service.
THE MOTHER-DAUGHTER BANQUET will be held on May 1st beginning at 6 p.m. with a pot-luck dinner. Ladies of the congregation are invited and are welcome to bring a guest. The theme of the banquet is “Aprons.” Gladys Simantel will entertain us using her apron collection. If you have a special apron you would be willing to show and share your story, we encourage you to do so! It would add to our enjoyment.
FREEWILL OFFERINGS for the “Faith Comes By Hearing” Bible CD program will be taken after today’s and next week’s worship services. As you recall, the CDs were provided to us at no cost. In appreciation and assistance to that organization for their work, and in response to our Lord’s command that we do what we can to spread the Gospel message while there is still time, we agreed to take a special offering to help them continue their Bible CD production operations. We note that they just released CDs in 13 more languages that are spoken by about 7.4 million people. Their goal is to produce CDs in 2,000 languages by the year 2016; these 2,000 languages cover 97% of the world’s population. It costs them about $950 to produce each of the 27 books of the New Testament in each language; thus, it costs almost $26,000 to produce the whole New Testament in any given language. Whatever financial help you can provide will be greatly appreciated and will be put to good use! Thank you!
HOLY WEEK WORSHIP SERVICES – Our Maundy Thursday and Good Friday worship services will both begin at 7:00 p.m. Please take advantage of this opportunity to worship with us during these last two Lenten services! The Sacrament of Holy Communion will be observed on Maundy Thursday. We will offer two services again this year on Easter Sunday. The sunrise service will begin at 7:00 and the late service will begin at the usual time of 9:30.
FINANCIAL AID is available for any full-time undergraduate student attending one of our Synodical universities and who is preparing for professional church work as well as for any full-time seminarian attending one of our Synodical seminaries. $1,800 is available for undergraduate work; $5,000 is available for seminarians. Financial Aid Request forms must be received by the Sioux Falls District Office no later than May 1st. Applications received after the deadline may not be considered or may be approved only if budgeted funds are still available. Students must apply each year. Applications are available online at the District web site http://sd.lcms.org under the Forms and Resources tab.
MENTOR/MENTEES are looking to put a list of people’s names together (especially men) who would be willing to be a mentor. We could really use a few people to put on the list for the kids to choose from when making that decision. Please contact Betsy if you would like your name on the list.

The program is interpreted for the hearing impaired.

LAWN MOWING BIDS: If you are interested in mowing the church lawn and parsonage lawn, please submit your bid as soon as possible to Scott Ruml, Craig Graber or Morgan Kleinsasser.
LADIES AID will meet this Wednesday evening after the Lenten service. The hostess will be Cindy Hofer. All ladies of the congregation are invited to attend.
THE ALPHA CENTER will have their annual banquet at 7:00 on April 11th at the Sioux Falls Ramkota Inn to thank churches and individuals for their support. There is a letter posted on the bulletin board that discusses the banquet’s theme, the featured speaker and other details.
MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES this year as well as our Holy Week services will focus on the “I AM” statements of Jesus in which we will see the divinity of Christ and the lengths to which He goes for our eternal salvation. This Wednesday’s sermon will focus on His statement: “I AM the True Vine.” All services will begin at 7:00 p.m. Please mark your calendars and PLEASE join us for worship! MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES this year as well as our Holy Week services will focus on the “I AM” statements of Jesus in which we will see the divinity of Christ and the lengths to which He goes for our eternal salvation. March 20, 2011 Kid's Crossing will look at John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son." The featured speaker Rev. Jais Tinglund from Our Savior Lutheran Church in Aberdeen and St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia, SD. The sermon theme is "Good Things Coming?" The hymns are God Loved the World so that He Gave; When I Survey the Wondrous Cross; and Just as I Am. The Main Street Living Choir will provide the hymns. The program is interpreted for the hearing impaired.

3-6-2011 Announcements
IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week, we pray for Leann Albrecht and her family, Roman Miller, Richard Salis, Gary Schrag and Delphine Laber as well as for our shut-in members, our inactive members and for at least two people in your life who don’t know Christ.
PASTOR IS ON VACATION thru Tuesday. Pastor Bob Moeller will be leading our worship service and adult Bible study class today and will be on call thru Tuesday for pastoral emergencies. You may reach him at 605-321-1641. You may also contact any of our elders for assistance.
LWML will meet after Lenten Service Wednesday evening. Topic will be led by Lee and Gerry will serve lunch.
South Dakota District LWML retreat will be held April 8th & 9th at Pierre. Topic will be, “Faith Talk.” Poster is on bulletin board in fellowship hall. Any more questions please speak with Wyona.

COFFEE HOUR: If there is anyone who would like to be in one of the coffee hour groups, please speak with Diane.
FREE NEW TESTAMENT CDs – For those people who were not here last week, CDs for our Lenten season challenge to listen to the New Testament between Ash Wednesday and Easter will be available after today’s worship service along with a schedule for you to track your progress if you wish. The CDs and schedule will also be available in the library throughout the Lenten season. We also have available an abbreviated “Kidz Bible” version for our younger members. If you would like to have an extra CD to give to a friend or family member, that is encouraged as well. These CDs are yours to keep and use as often as you like. If you have questions on how to use them or have trouble getting yours to work, please contact any elder, Kristi Dannenbring (660-4139) or the pastor (999-5591) for help. In just 28 minutes per day for the 40 days of Lent you can listen to the entire New Testament. Everyone is encouraged to participate and hear the Bible come alive!

The featured speaker is Rev. Thomas Christopher of St. Martin Lutheran Church in Alexandria, Trinity Lutheran Church in Spencer, and St. John Lutheran Church in Emery, SD. The sermon theme is "If you want to be saved." The hymns are Alas' and Did My Savior Bleed; Just As I Am; and Chief Of Sinners Thou I Be. The Main Street Living Choir will provide the hymns. The program is interpreted for the hearing impaired.
