03-18-2012 Announcements

IN OUR DAILY PRAYERS this week we pray for Doris Bertsch from Clayton recently diagnosed with cancer, for the Orville and Dorothy Huber family (also from Clayton) as they mourn the death of their son-in-law (Ron Morr – the husband of Jeanne), for Clara Baer in the hospital after falling this last week and breaking her hip, for Ella Hein and Wyona Hofer in the Freeman hospital and for Berniece Graber and Herb Huber as they continue their recovery in the Menno-Olivet Care Center. Please continue to also remember our numerous members in cancer treatment as well as our shut-in and inactive members. Besides talking with our Lord about these people who have crosses to bear, let us also remember to acknowledge and thank Him for all of our blessings, for our prayers that have been answered and for His continued providence in taking care of us … His children. And, as always, we ask that you please pray for at least two people in your life who do not know Christ.

BEFORE LEAVING the sanctuary, please find one person whom you don’t know or don’t know very well, introduce yourself and have a brief chat with them.

HELP WANTED
– Mature or immature adults to fill vacancies on Sundays (twice each month) from about 10:45 to 11:30 a.m. Must be alive and have either an open or a closed mind (preferably open). Coffee, homemade cookies and bars may be enjoyed, if you wish, while listening to and absorbing the discussion around you. Applicants should report to the Adult Bible Class in the narthex next Sunday morning after the worship service when the new topic of “A Comparison of Christian Denominations” will begin. All materials will be provided.

MENTOR-MENTEE MEETING – There will not be a Mentor-Mentee meeting in March. We will meet again in April though. Please take this month to do something together as a pair!

THE LUTHERAN DIGEST (Spring issue) has arrived and is on the vertical rack in the library.

CARE PACKAGES – If anyone would like a care package sent to a family member, friend or loved one, please contact Diane Schnabel or Penny Smidt. The Samaritan Group would like to get them mailed out in the next few weeks.

SUNDAY SCHOOL FAMILIES / TEACHERS – To help minimize spills and messes between the Fellowship Hall and the Sunday school rooms, it was recommended to have a beverage pitcher and cups in each Sunday school room, instead of having the children carrying drinks up the stairs. The children are still welcome to bring their plate of goodies up to the rooms, if they feel too rushed to eat in fellowship hall. The Board of Education will have the pitchers in place before each SS hour. We will do a trial run and if it works we will consider this on a permanent basis. Thank You. (s) The Board of Education

MIDWEEK LENTEN SERVICES – The theme for this year’s Lenten season is “The Christian and Cross-Bearing.” On March 21st we will explore “The Cross and Sin” and on March 28th we will look at “The Strength to Bear the Cross.” A soup and sandwich supper will available any time after 5:45; the worship service will begin at 7:00.

SUMMER CAMPS – We have received some info about the Swan Lake Christian Camps and Camp Minneboji to be held this summer. The posters are on the bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall. If you are interested, please contact the Pastor for an application form or check out their websites: www.myslcc.com and www.minneboji.com.

The featured speaker is Vicar Clint Thorson from Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. The sermon theme is “The Servant Rules!” The hymns are “Come to Calvary’s Holy Mountain,” “In the Cross of Christ I Glory” and “Let Us Ever Walk With Jesus.” The Main Street Living Choir will provide the hymns. MSL may be seen each Sunday morning at 10:00 on KDLT-NBC.

THE LUTHERAN HOUR – March 25 “He Knew” will be the sermon theme for Speaker Emeritus of The Lutheran Hour: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus. Would you want to know how and when you will die? Jesus willingly faced the Cross for us so that we can live and die with confidence and faith. (Mark 10:32-34) The Lutheran Hour is broadcast every Sunday morning at 8:30 on 105.9 FM (KMIT) and at 9:30 on 570 AM (WNAX).
