03-22-2015 Announcements


IN YOUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember Richard Salis as he recovers in the Freeman Hospital from pneumonia, Gerhard Schamber as he transitions to Oakview Nursing Home, Heather VanMeveren as she recuperates at home after a week in the hospital because of a large blood clot in her neck and all others who are recovering from surgery and illness, those in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

2015 LENTEN CHALLEnGE – The verse for the 5th week of Lent is Lamentations 3:23b.

Midweek Lenten ServicesThis Wednesday will be the last of our 6 Lenten midweek services on the theme “The Passion According to St. Matthew.  A soup and sandwich supper will be offered beginning at 5:45; the service will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Please join us for worship!

 LADIES AID will  meet on April 1st at 7:00 pm with Ella and Elsie Hein as Hostesses.  The  Bible Study will be Session 10 – The Good Samaritan followed  by the Business Meeting.  On Altar Guild for April is Mildred Siekmann and Phyllis Knittel is Visiting Helper.

ANNUAL REPORTS we are still in need of reports from:  Board of Trustees, Board of Elders, Mentor/Mentee and the Youth Group.  If you could please get them to the Pastor or Aleta Starner by no later then March 23.  We would like to get them printed for March 29 service.  If they are not received by then, the annual report will be printed with out them. THE MELCHER SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE is asking for donations to the scholarship fund because the interest rates are so low.  If you wish to donate to the scholarship fund, please place an envelope with “scholarship” written on the outside in the offering plate.  Donations need to be made by the last Sunday in April. THE LORD’S SUPPER at St. Paul Lutheran Church is administered in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.  It is celebrated in the confidence that we receive – in, with and under the consecrated bread and wine – our Savior’s true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  All who commune at this altar are making this public confession of the faith that we believe and teach as is written in the Holy Scriptures.  If you are not a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, please speak with the Pastor before the worship service.

DARTBALL ANNOUNCEMENT:  Last Sunday the St.Paul/Freeman dartball team won “FIRST PLACE” at the Mitchell Zone Tournament.  CONGRATULATE TEAM MEMBERS:
Dean Dreessen, Bob Pidde, Harvey Dannenbring, Keith Anderson, Matt Dannenbring, Marvin Dannenbring, Jesse Thomas, Bryce Dannenbring, & Rev. Weeman.  And SPECIAL THANKS to all who prepared food and to our youth group & counselors for serving the lunch/refreshments.

THE SD GIDEONS wish to thank St. Paul Lutheran Church for inviting them to give their presentation after last week’s worship service.  They enjoyed worshipping with us, talking with those whom they knew and meeting those whom they didn’t know!  The freewill offering collected for Gideon International was $373.  Thank you to all who donated.  Lives will be changed and more copies of the Bible can be distributed because of those donations.

LENTEN BIBLE STUDY CLASS – Please join us this Lenten season for 6 Sunday evening Bible study classes beginning Feb. 22 and then continuing on the 5 Sundays in March.  The evening begins at 5:45 with a light supper which will then be followed by a 1-hour class that will begin about 6:30; all materials will be provided.  The theme for this year’s classes will be “Christianity and the Competition” – authored by Lutheran Hour Ministries and Dr. Paul Maier.  We welcome you to this time of Bible study and fellowship!  Please add your name to the classes’ sign-up sheet on the bulletin board so that we know how many meals and class materials to prepare.  Thanks!

2015 LENTEN CHALLEnGE – Based upon our Lord’s example during His temptation in the desert as well as throughout His ministry, it is not only good that we know God’s Word but necessary as we follow in His footsteps.  Many of us already have regular daily devotions or other Bible study activities – and you are commended for that!  During this Lenten season, your Pastor challenges everyone (of all ages) to add one more facet to your faith life.  Starting today, let’s memorize one Bible verse (from the Bible translation of your choice) for each of the season’s 6 weeks!  Any time after Palm Sunday and before Easter Sunday, you may recite all 6 verses privately to the Pastor to receive your award!  The verse for the 1st week of Lent is the entire story of creation in one verse:  Genesis 1:1.

THANK YOU:  The Mentor/Mentees would like to thank everyone who came to the Valentine dinner last Sunday.  Your support was very much appreciated.  Also, thank you to our youth and volunteers for your hard work preparing for this event.

THE SOUTH DAKOTA GIDEONS have a short presentation for us after today’s worship service.  They will discuss the Gideons’ mission to distribute the Bible around the world and what we can do to help them.  We give praise and thanks to our God that so many people have been given access to the Bible because of the Gideons.  Some miscellaneous facts:

            There are more than 300,000 Gideons and Auxiliary members.

            In the last 10 years they have distributed over 750 million Bibles.

            In 2014 more than 81 million copies of the Bible were distributed.

            1.9 billion Bibles have been distributed worldwide since 1908.

            More than 2 copies of God’s Word are distributed every second.

            Over 1 million Bibles are distributed every 4 days.

A freewill offering for the Gideons’ work will also be accepted after today’s service.

OUR 2015 CHURCH OFFICERS being installed today are Leann Schulz-Thomas (Treasurer), Kelli Broders (Board of Education), Keith Knodel (Board of Elders), Mark Roth (Board of Evangelism), LaNae Harberts (Board of Finance), Dan Podzimek (Board of Trustees) and Harvey Dannenbring (Board of Ushers).  We thank God for raising up these servants to work in His kingdom and pray that He will give them the wisdom, strength and courage to fulfill the duties of their respective offices.
MISSION FUNDRAISING LUNCHEON – Today, after Bible study and Sunday School classes, I will be hosting a baked potato feed to help fund a mission trip to Akiachak, Alaska.  On June 20th, I will be traveling with a team of 12 others from Seward, NE to serve for one week in sharing the message of Jesus Christ to the Village of Akiachak.  We will do this through a Bible camp and a basketball camp.  This is the 6th year for the team to travel to Akiachak and it is my second time on the team.  It would be wonderful if you all could attend!  For more information, please look at the poster hung on the bulletin board.  Thanks for your support, Carly Fritz!

ATTENTION DARTBALL PLAYERS - The 2015 season begins this Monday, Jan 26.  Zion/Mitchell will play here at St. Paul/Freeman. Game time is 7 : 30 pm.  Men, women, and teenagers are welcome to participate.  For more information contact Rev. Weeman at 605-925-4004.

Our 2015 CHURCH OFFICERS -  will be installed during next week’s worship service.

 Next Sunday, the ADULT BIBLE STUDY CLASS will be held in the narthex like we used to do (instead of in an upstairs Sunday School classroom as we are currently doing).  Everyone is welcome to join us!  Feel free to bring your coffee and snacks to class as we begin our new topic.  All materials will be provided.

 MISSION FUNDRAISING LUNCHEONOn Sunday, February 1st, after Bible study I will be hosting a baked potato feed here at St. Paul to help fund a mission trip to Akiachak, Alaska.  On June 20th, I will be traveling with a team of 12 others from Seward, NE to serve for one week in sharing the message of Jesus Christ to the Village of Akiachak.  We will do this through a Bible camp and a basketball camp.  This is the 6th year for the team to travel to Akiachak and it is my second time on the team.  It would be wonderful if you all could attend!  For more information, please look at the poster hung on the bulletin board.  Thanks for your support, Carly Fritz!

LADIES AID - will meet on Feb. 5th at 7:00 with Corrine Handel as Hostess.  The BIble Study will be Session 9  - The Pharisee and The Tax Collector, followed by the Business Meeting.  On Altar Guild for February is Sharon Pfeiffer and Millie Gunderson is Visiting Helper.

ANNUAL REPORT – It’s that time of year to start working on the church’s annual report.  If all applicable Boards and Committees would please get your reports to the church office or to Pastor as soon as you can, we would appreciate it.  Thank you.

THANK YOU -  for the things that have been placed on and around the The Caring/Giving Tree that is set up in the fellowship hall. We will be accepting items a few more weeks before taking them to the local food pantry. All items will benefit those who need them greatly. We are asking for any new items of warmth or any basic hygiene item.   Again  Thank you for helping the Sunday school complete this project.

1-11-2015 Announcements


IN YOUR DAILY PRAYERS this week please remember the family of John Holzwarth as they mourn his death and celebrate his eternal life with Christ as well as those who are recovering from surgery and illness, those in cancer treatment programs, our shut-in and inactive members, and at least 2 family members or friends in your life who do not yet know Christ.

THE LORD’S SUPPER at St. Paul Lutheran Church is administered in accordance with the Holy Scriptures and the Lutheran Confessions.  It is celebrated in the confidence that we receive – in, with and under the consecrated bread and wine – our Savior’s true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of our sins.  All who commune at this altar are making this public confession of the faith that we believe and teach as is written in the Holy Scriptures.  If you are not a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and yet desire to receive the Sacrament, please speak with the Pastor before the worship service

Main Street Living – Jan. 11th – The featured speaker is Rev. Garen Pay of Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester, SD.  The program is interpreted for the hearing impaired.

CALENDAR CHANGE – Please note the revised date:  the Council will meet on Jan. 14th at 7:00.

MENTOR/MENTEE GROUP- will meet Sunday, January 18th at 7 PM at the church.  Please plan on attending!

ANNUAL VOTERS’ MEETING NOTICE – Our annual voters’ meeting will be held January 25th in the Fellowship Hall right after the worship service.

WELLSPRING CARE CENTER – Our church is a member of the Wellspring Wholistic Care Center which offers counseling to the people of this area.  If you wish to become a delegate to represent our church, to attend their meetings and report back to us, to help with educational seminars, etc., please contact the pastor before the end of January so that your name can be submitted by the deadline.  Thanks.
